Forged railroad wheels are manufactured through a process that follows a strict quality control from steel production to packaging for delivery. During the manufacturing stages, the railroad wheel undergoes several tests and measurements, such as chemical analysis, dimensional control, various mechanical tests, magnetic particles, ultrasound in automatic immersion equipment, all in accordance with international specifications.

MICROALLOYED STEEL:
GREATER SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE
Technology and innovation are characteristics of MWL Brasil to keep up with the market demand for passenger cars and heavy haul cargo. In partnership with the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in the state of São Paulo, the company developed microalloyed steel for forged railroad wheels that provide better properties of mechanical resistance combined with high tenacity, which in the field allow less wear and consequently increase the useful life of the wheel. With this development, MWL Brasil shows that it is a global company prepared to meet the needs of the world market.
FORGED RAILROAD AXLES
MWL Brasil manufactures rail axles according to standard or customized standards, for locomotives, passenger and cargo cars. The axle’s raw shape is conceived in the forging process. Then, other stages of the process allow the final product to reach the quality assured by MWL. At the end of the production process, the axes are machined and finished around CNC, giving the highest levels of quality and precision machining. Similar to the wheel’s production process, the axles undergo mechanical testing and dimensional inspection, magnetic particle analysis and ultrasound testing.

WHEELSET FOR CARGO WAGONS
MWL has a qualified and experienced team to assemble wheelsets for “Cargo Wagon” and also to assemble the bearings. The assembly is done cold and by interference between wheel and axle and between bearing and axle, according to the AAR Standard, section GII. The entire assembly process is monitored in real time to guarantee the assembly pressure established by the customer’s standard or specification. For each mounted wheel, a report with the mounting pressure graph is issued.
